THE CHALLENGE
Domestic and International IP law firm requests filing of a 20,000-word German patent that requires extensive formatting, added security measures, and a five-day turnaround.
THE SOLUTION
McElroy Translation received encrypted files via email that were assigned to a project coordinator. The project coordinator, using PGP software, un-encrypted the files and uploaded them to MemoQ’s secure server. MemoQ’s cloud-computing capabilities enable translation and review to be done on their server (versus on each individual’s desktop), and their translation memory capabilities allow for multiple translators to work on a job while updating TM live, which kept the content consistent. McElroy assigned a team of three German patent translators for translation and review.
Once translation began, the project coordinator sent graphics to McElroy’s full-service, in-house DTP department, where graphics were cleaned up and prepped. The DTP department is able to monitor the progress of translation and review via our workflow system technology. As the necessary text was completed, a DTP specialist pulled it from MemoQ, dropped it into the graphics, formatted as necessary, and prepared the graphics for final quality assurance.
Once files were complete, a quality control specialist combined the graphics and reviewed the final document on the MemoQ server, where translation memory was updated automatically. The job was then encrypted and returned to the client via email.
Although McElroy’s streamlined technology allows for quicker turnaround times that maintain quality and consistency, it is the McElroy team that enables the customized processes we afford all of our clients.
